The next meeting is June 28th at 7:30 pm at Lake Ridge Baptist Church.
The July meeting will be held on 26th at 7:30pm at Lake Ridge Baptist Church.
I hope you all enjoyed our birthday party last month! Many thanks to Judy Rice and Linda Thompson, and the
May Birthday girls for the delicious cake and birthday treats! And thank you to Mary Kerr for celebrating her
new book and wonderful Vintage Revisited Quilts with us. The drunken relay (hmm, is that right?) was a lot of
fun too! By the way, we have about 50 drunkards path blocks from the challenge. If you would like to piece
them together for the guild, please let me know. Perhaps they can be our next Membership Quilt?
We are halfway through 2010. How do your purple cards look? It was wonderful to see all of the Preemie and
Caring Quilts turned in last month in honor of Bev Huss, and the Basket quilts that were part of the challenge.
We have a lot challenges coming up, there will certainly be one that speaks to you. If you are looking for a
'punch' for a workshop/retreat we have a pair of great workshops in August with Ami Simms.
Summer is finally here and for some of us that means our schedules will lighten up a bit, and hopefully we'll be
able to spend the free time quilting in air conditioning comfort. If you are vacationing, be sure to pack up a
project to take with you! Our June speaker is Ricki Silva who will be presenting a trunk and slide show entitled "World View" (not a
lecture on Featherweights as was previously advertised). Ricki is a quilter and photographer who has traveled all over the world.
At the June meeting we'll learn how the faces, places, sights, smells, and tastes of other countries inspire the colors and
designs of Ricki's quilts. Visit Ricki's website -- www.rickiselva.com -- to get a preview
of her stunning quilts.
Our June meeting will be a busy one. We need to vote on a charity for our 2011 Raffle Quilt, so come prepared
to present your favorite charity. Also, we're always trying to pare down the business meeting so that everyone
can enjoy a relaxed break, and our speaker. We have tried shortening the committee reports, and will continue
to keep this part of the meeting brief.
Be sure to read your newsletter, as much of the information we skip over at the meeting is here. What would
you think about moving the starting time of the meeting to 7pm? 7:15? Let's talk about it at the meeting.
Finally, thanks to Kathy McLaren we have another year of Chinn Bees scheduled. Our next Chinn Bee will be
July 3rd. Come join us at the bee and celebrate Independence from FO's!

All visitors are welcome, so stop by and we hope you enjoy the meetings.
News from the Vice-Presidents
Since Ricki won't be talking about featherweights during the meeting,
she will offer a three hour featherweight workshop for CBQ members
(date, time, and place to be announced). During the workshop you will
learn how to perform basic cleaning, service, and maintenance on your
Singer Featherweight sewing machine and learn how to care for your
machine, ensuring years of reliable sewing. This is an exciting
fast-paced class -- hands on, lots of explanation, demonstration, and
visual information. We will announce the date and have sign-ups at the
June meeting.
In July we’ll have our annual “yard” sale and auction.
In August we’ll have a weekend with Ami Simms. On Saturday August 21 Ami will teach her “Twisted Sisters”
class; Sunday she will teach “Invisible Appliqué.” Class size is limited, so sign-up and pay early to reserve your
spot. At our August meeting Ami will present a slide show on “Living With Quilts: A Survival Guide,” during
which we will learn creative coping strategies for quilters, but not necessarily for their families.
In September we’ll have a color challenge -- stop by the V.P. table in June and pick three crayons from our
school supply box (no peeking allowed!) Make a quilt using those three colors plus up to two more of your
choosing.
